13.12.2009 There was an interview with the following six Gamemasters:
- Arya Firethorn
- Alevina
- Laylee
- Virsaemna Heartlistener
- GM Ownage
- Xane Doombringer
- Aestyn
During the interview players could ask various questions to two gamemasters. Below you can read all questions and answers made during the interview.

The cape is kind of hot on summer days... the super powers are nice but I shouldn't use them so much, all the teleporting makes you lazy!
On a more serious note, being a GM has its ups and downs like everything else (but more ups of course, or I wouldn't be doing it
). It's amazing to be able to help out a bit, catch some of the bad guys, or just participate in this chat of course! ![]()

I can't speak for the others, but I guess it differs for all of us. Contrary to popular belief, we do have lives outside tibia (yes, really!), so on some days you have barely any time, or even no time at all, while on others, you might spend hours taking reports.

Sometimes I wish we could, ha ha! Well, we were able to quest on several occasions on test servers, which led to some funny scenarios with leveling GMs, but unfortunately that's not possible anymore
.

It all depends on the GM and what's going on in our lives, I suppose. I think the typical GM puts in atleast an hour a day! A GM cannot get married on our GM chars - we have no cap so cannot carry a wedding ring. It's so sad, I know. We live a life of monks. ![]()

Voluntary GMs have nothing to do with lags or servers in general, so unfortunately, I can't answer that
. If it's a problem on CipSoft's side, I'm sure they're working hard to fix it.

#1 Definitely. Give the right example to other players, try to tell them that what they are doing is wrong and why. If all else fails, report them to a Senior tutor so that they can report the statement.

To your first question, I'll reply: yes, definitely. The first and best way is to react against such behaviour is not not to accept it as normal! Often, the offender will realise what he did was wrong if pointed so, and apologise. Even if he doesn't, the more protest, the more everyone will see how only a minority really is racistic.
As far as actual rule enforcement is concerned, you can report such things to GMs with ctrl+r and/or the GM board. If you get no reply (alas, it happens far more often than we'd wish), you may also try to contact senior tutors in the help channel: they've got a special report feature for public statements.
To your second question... well there's no real answer here! Any donuts, obviously <3

I visit all worlds at least once per week (sometimes as often as twice per day). It all depends how many Ctrl R reports are open. You may not know it but we are around a lot more often than we are actually seen.

To be honest, I always wanted CIP to invest in a "GM SD" which would kill players in one hit if they were misbehaving (I'd rather do that than ban, honestly). But, sadly - no. ![]()

Actually, the system is banning more botters than we ever did manually. No one will deny that there is room for improvement, but you can't say it's not doing anything either
.

1. I see lots of room for abuse. Although I also see the advantages, I think they are overruled by the possibility for abuse.
2. Maybe they liked my shoes? Honestly, I don't know, I guess I just happened to have caught someone's eye.
3. Yes and no. There was something strangely satisfying about chasing botters sometimes, although most of the times it was extremely frustrating. I'm glad that the new system is in place, and we have time to tend to other rule violations now
.
4. I loved it! Always loved content updates, new areas to explore!

I guess you mean with the bot system. There is an automatic system now for botters, and therefore that has replaced GMs for banning cheaters. It is said to be more efficient. If you want us to ban botters again, I'd suggest making a proposal! ![]()

However...with different GM characters on every world and having access to every depot equally, just randomly sending us letters is not a good idea. It may be years before we happen to visit that depot on the certain GM character!

No. I do not agree with this at all. Why should STs be given such an ability? That can leave someone the ability to have a vendetta against someone in the game and then lead to something even greater. I think that is a horrible idea. The forums are good enough. ![]()

I'd love for GMs to still be able to ban botters with the auto system going on, too. ![]()

I have not really ventured off into Farmine yet. When I did on test server, I died on my character in the fortress, hehe! I will explore sometime soon, though.
I do like the new creature products! Not a fan of the new outfit, though. Looks weird! ![]()

I guess in some way this system is more efficient, though I'm not entirely sure. As I've stated before, CipSoft is aware of the disadvantages of the system. Although I cannot speak for them.. ![]()

This is exactly why advertising the selling or buying of premium time is illegal - those advertisements are often made by scammers. If you want to trust someone over the internet, it is your own responsibility, and yes, you might get scammed. You could try forwarding your proposal on the proposal board though, and who knows what might happen? ![]()

I usually go by the name of GM Arya, although I also have some other GM names. You won't see me very often even if I'm online, though, I often prefer working from the shadows (it has many advantages, like not getting a permanent pm wave

Fact remains that we have way less gamemasters than game worlds. We all have our lives outside Tibia, which means that it's very unlikely to have all of us online at the same time. If we are busy taking a report on one world, we will inevitably miss reports on other worlds... You would really need to get a huge number of GMs to make sure that every world has one available at all times.

2. It is possible in theory, however, imagine having characters on 77 worlds and 12 depots on each of those worlds (feel free to correct me on the numbers

I have not been able to do all the quests yet or explore Farmine/Zao completely yet. I have explored the fortress as well as the dragon mountains, they were nice. As I stated earlier, the new creature products are great! I've been hunting and although I do not like the "half-digested meat" as I think it's absolutely gross, I love that such products get dropped now. ![]()

1- We're sometimes asked for opinions before a feature is introduced, and we may always submit feedback or suggestions about a bit everything. However, that's the limit of our role as far as updates are concerned.
2- We're in permanent (well, okay, maybe not permanent, let's say daily!) contact with the Head Gamemaster, who is part of the Cipsoft team. She monitors us all and she's our interface to the company.
3- We sometimes have conversations with other people than our HGM, but they're rather uncommon (and nope, no chit chat with the Gods as far as I can tell!)

Similarly to what I said earlier...I visit each world at least once a week and usually try to get to each world once per day. If there are no Ctrl R reports there I move on. Most of the time, there are quite a few worlds where there are no reports for me to tend to at all

I disagree with each world having their own GM. On the worlds I play, I do not like to GM to be honest. It makes me seem 'biased' if I do. Therefore, I generally ask other GMs to step in if something goes on. As for popping onto other worlds: we try to do our best, really. But, there are few of us, and over 70 worlds. ![]()

I consider us community helpers, I guess. We are here for players when in need and can ban someone instantly who is posting hacklinks, being offensive, spamming, etc. I love chatting in Game-Chat and 'keeping things in order' on the forums. It's nice to do and nice to have a GM in G-C once and a while. Makes you guys know that WE care about YOU! ![]()

Of course, we all were normal players. As for me, playing wise, i am still not "that" good. I can manage my own, i play kamikaze here and there, but i am pretty much.... an awful player XD
I prefer manasitting anyways...
As for becomming a GM? Well Craban came to me once, asking me if i was interrested to apply for the position. Most GMs comes from being tutors, however, MANY tutors have been on that position for several years and will never be GMs. While some others, myself included, didn't even last a full year as a tutor before being invited.

After quickly explaining to me that no, I wasn't in trouble, no, I wasn't getting banned, it didn't matter that my house was a mess, I wasn't getting banned for messy housekeeping, etc...she invited me to apply to join the gm team. I would have to say the funniest time I've had on tibia was one morning when my friend got online. He had been out partying or something the night before, and by the time he got on tibia that night he was a bit out of it. With the help of a few friends, we had to explain to him why he was wearing noob equipment, had no money, and was carrying lots of mana potions in thais rats. It doesn't sound like much, but you had to be there. (In case anyone was wondering, his lack of money/equipment was because he kept throwing it on the ground and I'd stolen it to keep it safe from his drunken charity. I have no idea what was up with the manas and choice of hunting location, however. O_o)

Alright, serious time. Well, I really just wanted to keep helping the community however I could, and accepting the offer of a cape would give me more tools. At the time I was a senior tutor, and often I would be frustrated with spammers and other disruptive people and how I could only tell others to ignore them and wait forever for a gm to answer the report. So I felt like it would give me a chance to be able to take action in such situations, reducing the frustration all around.

I usually play several times a week, depending on how my real life is going. If I have exams or a lot of work to get done, I won't play tibia as much, but if I'm on break I might be on for several hours every day. It just depends. ![]()

We reply in GM chat threads!
Other than that, GMs go to the beach (the one on Meluna) and have nice cocktails. They bath in the Sun and tan, and relax at the sound of the sea... ahhh... Meluna...
Err!
You probably mean "what gms do now that they don't ban botters anymore", right? Well, unfortunately, botting isn't the only evil Tibians can do ![]()
Further to investigating such rule breaks, we may also answer questions or try to help players settle disputes which don't forcefully concern a rule break. There are other ways to help than handing out banishments ![]()
@Tox Bass, concerning the evolution of the GM system:
A change that could be good in my opinion would be giving us more freedom as far as community management is involved. Frequent GM organised events, now that sounds like fun, huh?
I don't remember if I answered this, so here it goes again!

One day, I was just playing my playing character, and I suddenly got messaged by the HGM! Honestly, my first thought was "I didn't do anything wrong did I? 0.o", ha ha. By the time I recovered from the shock of the true reason of the visit, I had already agreed to apply for the position, and some time later, they gave me the cape

One of the funny things I recall was when I was helping a player who just created his account and was on the tutorial. He asked lots of questions, and I tried to answer them to the best of my knowledge. His final question: Are you a real person, or just an answering bot?

Like any other Tibia player, we can always suggest new features and comment existing ones
. I'd say we work with some of the CipSoft employees quite closely, especially the HGM who works with us on a daily basis. This is essential to our work as gamemasters.
Personally, I don't think I've ever spoken to the owners of cipsoft ^^.

Actually, I've been to Neptera just yesterday (although not on my regular character). That does not mean that every player on Neptera will notice our presence, though. If you wish to report something, I strongly suggest you use the gamemaster board, so that we'll know where to login next

Eat donuts, catch butterflies, bother our NPC Penny... No, really, we have plenty of things to do, although the majority of the players seem to think that there are no rules other than rule 3c.

1. Read my replies on the previous posts. I normally start off with a random world and hop around randomly afterwards, while keeping an eye on the gamemaster board and taking reports there.
2. Favorite part: I know this sounds a bit cliché, but I love helping people. It's not something in particular, but just seeing someone's smile (even if it's just pixels) after helping them makes my day!
Least favorite part: When our powers simply do not allow us to help someone with a matter that is important to them. There are so many cases in which I would really love to help, but simply cannot... ![]()
3. It differs depending on my real life schedule. On some days, I might not play at all, on others, I might spend hours just taking reports, or just playing my playing character, or a bit of both.
4. No, I don't. I see the relevance of each of the rules and how they help to improve the atmosphere in Tibia, which I find very important

The problem is this:
1- is what reported is actually something handled by us? (.i.e. botters are SOLELY handled by the system)
2- pvp server type means much is legal when it would be illegal in nonpvp. I.E. Path trapping.
3- When we get on the server, there is no reports to check. We can wait hours there, still nothing. So we leave for servers with reports.
We often get this complain "that gm don't go to the server" . I'll be honest, i even see that on the server i play on, yet it is the server i check the most (since i am always there, i pretty much see anything going on in the channel) . So it is not because you dont see us that we aren't there. If the report is closed, we will not see it.

Ah, here we hit a completely different problem. I'll tell you how I personally do:
- I log on a random world
- If there are reports, I take them all, and then hop to another server
- If there is no report, I might wait a few minutes and see if anything needs my attention in the meantime, or I might as well just go to a server that does have active reports
If you do not keep your report active (with ctrl+r) assuming we won't read it, then we indeed won't, that for sure. Active reports make us stay on the server when we do log on, instead of leaving thinking there is nothing we can do anyway.

Yes i like that update in help, FINALLY tutors will stop reporting each other out for giving too much help.
If there was ONE THING i would change with my position, and this might or might not be supported with the rest of the team and Cip, it would be to ban botters again. I personally believe that working hand in hand with the automated system would be better than letting just one work ( just the gms or just the system )

They do have some 'hired' GMs, but those are people in the Customer Support team that wear the "GM" title as well, ie. GM Manina Danubia. There main priority though lies in Customer Support, while the typical volunteer GM lies in rule enforcement. I don't know why - you could always make a proposal! ![]()

It depends entirely on the day. I'd say anywhere between no time and 5-6 hours, and how many servers I visit depends on how many problems I find on each server.

I think we currently have at least 1 or 2 polish gms, but don't quote me on that because I'm not 100% sure where everybody comes from. There are definitely good polish senior tutors out there, and I'm sure that they've been chosen as gms in the past.

Yes, we discuss possible candidates on the gm board(subject to cip's veto, of course) and after the applications are submitted we view those as well, to make sure that every gm is comfortable with the new additions to the team.

New gamemasters being chosen? Well, we don't really get to decide when new gamemasters are chosen, but when the time is right for you to know, I'm sure CipSoft will announce something

We keep all our protective measures secret, to strenghten the global security!
Just kidding ![]()
Not visiting dubious websites ("free items", "free premium", "free xp" and the like) already is quite an important step. Also, you'd be surprised how effective not cheating can be. Finally, avoid files sent by other Tibians, and don't log in from dubious computers. Installing an antivirus / firewall can help, but let's be honest: security is above all a matter of common sense

I like to listen to pop/electronic stuff like Jem or Scissor Sisters, but I also enjoy listening to classic rock(The Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc) and even harder rock(Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, etc), though I tend to not enjoy screaming metal. A friend introduced me to viking metal a few weeks ago, however, and I've been enjoying that genre. I also like to listen to instrumental music without vocals. I have a very nice cd from japan that I like to listen to sometimes while I'm banning people.

Of course I do not think there are enough GMs right now, there are under 40 of us, and over 70 worlds. I think it's hard though to recruit new and promising GMs, though, especially if CIP is planning on reconstructing the GM system!

I also look for music to play on my radio show that I do, as well as look for music news on AbsolutePunk. ![]()

Salad with feta cheese, olives, NO ONIONS, carrot, green pepper, NO TOMATO and vinegarette(sp?) dressing. Yum.

Tried making sure you have your most recent graphics card drivers and that your fancy graphics effects are turned off? That solved my tibia problems. But as others have suggested, you should make a thread on the tech help board. ![]()

This may sound childish, but so be it!
Up, Wall-E, and Finding Nemo are my favorites. Pixar and Disney are a roxx0rz combo!

Not a huge fan of steak. But, if eating it, medium-rare I guess. Although I do not enjoy hamburgers, cheeseburgers, or any sort of that meat. Just chicken. ![]()

Paranormal Activity was an amazing horror/thriller/suspense I have to say. Also, for action, I guess Brothers is an amazing movie (new movie with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire).

I'd like to think it's CipSoft increasing the punishment, but I fear (not that it's fact, I fear!) that it's increased cheaters.

I don't watch many movies, but I still find it hard to pick just one. The Lord of the Rings movies were really well done. As a writer, I really enjoyed Stranger Than Fiction. And as a Stargate nerd, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the original movie. Serenity was really good too...browncoats ftw! ![]()

The definition of "favourite" you choose would seriously affect the answer. I don't prefer a server over another, but surely, there are servers which I know better than others for having played there. I can only talk for myself here though

As I've mentioned, I dj a radio show every other week (sometimes every week) at my college that I love doing. I am a huge music fanatic, and love going to concerts when I get the chance. Although expensive, living near NYC is great for finding great music opportunities and going to concerts! Other than that, regular movie going, chillaxing with friends and whatnot is always a great time. ![]()

I think I've banned 100 players once for botting, spamming me with offensive comments and the like on only one world once! Was quite the banning olympics for me.

GM Laylee
no, if the person breaks the rules, there is no such thing as unjustified banishments. There are bans overturned, but it is often per lack of prooves or missunderstandings.
The biggest "unjust" ban would be when i banned a thief after warning him 6 times to stop, kicking him offline , warning him again and see him continue to do so. This was in my very first months of activity and it was caused by missunderstandings of an action once done toward me, by a Cip employee, which made me believe that thievery was illegal.
HOWEVER, i did ban people on accidents. When you click statements, you sometimes misclick them and i did end up banning innocent peoples. Such mistake were resolved within the following minutes though.

I came in the team when he was there. When he left, it was a complete shock for me. I truely believe that with him leaving, the GM team lost one of it's pillar
Sejalzor, if you meant in real life, Kosari and Ramorien. We speak a lot in game and there is something with those 2 that i am sure i could learn as well.
tyrell in RL would probably freak me out even more :P <3

Get sumonning powers on a server for 24 hours. Time to teach the "average" palyer why GMs DONT have that capacity ^.^

Yes, that its "my job"
but when i FINALLY catch someone whom i know for trouble making and whom always evaded it, it is purely a joygasm. Those around me, in RL, knew i did something evil cause i had a HUGE snickering smile on my face and i was twitching on the chair.

yes it depends on the ban type. Sharing/mc/botting, they are instantly out of the guild i lead. I can remain friend with them because it is not because someone prefers facility on a game, that it means he/she is a bad person.
But.. you know.. i banned so many peoples in my own guild... It is almost a way to see if they are REALLY friends for the right reasons. If they stay friends despite bans, they ARE good friends.

I have banned several of my friends on Tibia before. They usually deserve it; I can't do anything about it. Have to be as unbias as I can.
Anyways ...
I just want to thank all of you all again for asking anything that was on your minds. It was truly a fun time, and like my colleagues, I hope you understand us a bit better now. Special thanks to all the GMs for helping out, made it even more enjoyable. ![]()

Thanks for reading and I hope you liked it!!
